"The nation bows before your tower ..."
The following poems are the final selection of
Libertine in The Fleur-de-lis by Emily Isaacson,
and feature the four seasons,
Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter
with their respective qualities.
The male and female voice alternates
in each section as four royal couples
court each other and find true love.
What better place to stage this play
heralding the Prince of Time
than in the Firestone, where soliloquy
is the medium of choice?
The dire opposite of communism is communion,
I once wrote, and now we see in literature
these opposites vying for supremacy:
the spiritual life, triumphant
over death and decay.
Emily Isaacson
